I guess I should have told you an overview of what we’re doing in Albuquerque (which I can now spell with no problem). We spent 2 nights at Enchanted Trails RV Park (last Wed & Thurs). Then we moved to the Balloon Fiesta RV parking with 149 other Airstreams for 4 nights. Tomorrow (Tuesday) we move back to Enchanted Trails for 2 nights. We’ll meet our friends (from The Villages) Mike & Carol. Then we’ll travel with them back to the Balloon Fiesta for 3 nights (Thurs, Fri, & Sat). We’ll leave Albuquerque on Sunday to start our trek home. It should take us 7 to 10 days to get home – well Silver Girl’s new home at my sister Jennifer’s new home in Florida. More about that later.
Monday afternoon we had quite a rain storm, including hail. I’m sure you could hear 150 Airstreams screaming “HAIL” from where ever you were! It was too windy so the evening glow was cancelled. So we had a nice little cocktail party in Silver Girl with some new friends. The fireworks went off on time and we watched them from the RV Park.
I woke up with morning to what I thought was distant thunder. Then Benn’s said it’s 6:30. We looked out the door and the dawn patrol balloons were right over head. I guess there were no planes or helicopters this morning or we just slept through them! We dressed quickly and walked down to the field. About 200 balloons went up this morning. The last 2 days it was over 500.
This morning after all the balloons were up, there was a flying competition. They had to throw something (I assume a bean bag) into a boat – a row boat that they had set up in the field. Balloons were landing at the south end of the field until the wind changed. One flew right over us and landed.
Yes, pigs do fly! Benn loves this balloon. It landed in the RV parking area.
